Gardner Family Chiropractic

When you first meet Tony Gardner it feels more like a social gathering with an old friend than a consultation with a doctor. He’s jovial and friendly. And, above all, caring.

Dr. Gardner, of Wrightstown, has owned Gardner Family Chiropractic since 1997. He is passionate about providing his patients with top-notch chiropractic care. But, even more than that, he strives to help his patients understand the underlying reason for the pain they may be experiencing and how a customized treatment regimen can put their body back on track.

“I like to educate more than adjust,” he said. “The first day is a fact-finding mission.”

A typical first appointment with Dr. Gardner involves a no-charge consultation. If the patient decides to undergo treatment, Dr. Gardner provides an exam to gain insight into trouble areas and where he needs to adjust.

“I do adjust a lot differently than other chiropractors,” he said. “It’s very specific to the person. No two people are going to get the same adjustment.”

The reasons people may need spinal correction are varied and range from back or joint pain, sciatica, injuries resulting from an auto accident and more. Dr. Gardner uses photos and diagrams to illustrate vertebral subluxation, or, in layman’s terms, less than a complete bone dislocation.

While many of his patients begin chiropractic care because of extreme pain, he stressed that people could need adjustments even in instances where pain is not present.

“Judging your health by how you feel can be dangerous,” he said.

Chemical, emotional and physical stressors cause the spinal column, over time, to be less than symmetrical.

So, when should someone consider chiropractic care?
“The day you start breathing,” according to Dr. Gardner. “A lot of the problems that people present with happened at birth. Things don’t happen overnight.”

Bonnie Ibisi began seeking treatment from Dr. Gardner six years ago after steroids failed to correct the pain stemming from her 10-hour-a-day desk job. Regular adjustments have helped her back condition, as well as the hiatal hernia in her stomach. Prior to chiropractic treatment, Ibisi’s stomach condition – which causes severe heart burn –  was misdiagnosed as food poisoning. She had been hospitalized several times a year. None of the medical treatments had helped.

Since she has been under Dr. Gardner’s care, Ibisi said, “I don’t have any problems.”

Long before he became a chiropractor, Dr. Gardner understood its importance. He had been going to a chiropractor regularly and, after some coaxing from his sister, he left behind his electronics career in favor of chiropractic schooling at Life University in Marietta, Georgia.

His electronics background continues to be of good use though. For the last seven years Dr. Gardner has set up a holiday lights display set to music outside his office. He has also used his electronics know-how to put on a haunted house for the community’s enjoyment. These efforts help another thing near and dear to his heart – addiction recovery. Donations collected from the 2017 holiday light show supported First Stop Recovery, a Kensington-based nonprofit organization. Through the organization, Dr. Gardner funds the first 30 days of addiction treatment to anyone who needs it.

His goal with both his chiropractic office and his role with addiction recovery is to help people care for their bodies.

“More people take better care of their car than their body,” he said. “If you don’t take care of your body where are you going to live?”
