Dollar General Coming to Falls
The Falls Township Supervisors kept public safety front of mind in requiring that Dollar General install sidewalks as part of its land development plan.
The company is planning to construct a 7,489-square-foot retail store on a 1.7-acre lot situated at 1279 Old Bristol Pike. The location is across from a Wawa and near a mobile home park. A Dollar General representative argued that since sidewalks are not required at the mobile home park or at Wawa, it would be dangerous for the store to add them.
“There would be no connector,” he said.
But, the Falls Supervisors disagreed with that logic, ultimately denying a request to waive the sidewalk requirement as part of the preliminary and final land development approval
Supervisors Chairman Bob Harvie said the store will likely draw pedestrian traffic from the mobile home park.
“There’s definitely going to be walk up traffic to the store,” he said. “This is a store that’s going to attract a lot of kids from the neighborhood. I think it’s incumbent to put the sidewalk in. It’s for the safety of the people.”
Supervisor Brian Galloway agreed.
“We’ve been promoting sidewalks around town,” Galloway said.
Supervisor Jeff Boraski said that sidewalks will connect as additional businesses are added.
“That was always a theory here,” Boraski said. “They’ll have a safe place to walk coming into your store.”
Once complete, the Dollar General would have a parking lot with 33 spaces for customers and employees, as well as a loading and unloading facility in the south side of the facility.
