Falls Opens Communication Lines Related to Septic Systems

The Supervisors set an Oct. 1 meeting to answer questions, residents’ concerns.

The Falls Township Supervisors is inviting residents - particularly those with an on-lot subsurface sewage disposal facility - to attend an Oct. 1 meeting to discuss state-mandated changes related to the township’s sewer management plan.

The informal meeting is meant to serve as a question and answer forum for residents who may have questions or concerns about proposed updates to the township’s ordinance regarding sewer systems. The Supervisors voted unanimously to introduce and advertise the amended ordinance, which will be considered for approval at a future meeting.

Supervisors Chairman Bob Harvie said Supervisors, as well as Township of Falls Authority board members will attend the Oct. 1 meeting.

One of the major changes proposed to the ordinance involves moving away from previous requirements that a sewage enforcement officer had to conduct inspections of on-lot sewage systems. Instead, the Department of Environmental Protection is permitting the Township of Falls Authority to create a list of approved service providers that residents can use for inspections, according to Falls Township attorney, Lauren Gallagher.

“Residents can hire somebody on their own,” Harvie said.

Largely the proposed changes mean that the Township of Falls Authority would handle paperwork related to inspections as opposed to having to hire staff to carry out inspections.

To learn more about the proposed ordinance amendments or ask questions, residents are invited to attend the open meeting on Oct. 1 at 7 p.m. at the Falls Township municipal building, 188 Lincoln Highway in Fairless Hills.
