Flooding Delays Completion of New Lincoln Highway Bridge in Falls Township
King of Prussia, PA – The scheduled completion of the new bridge carrying Lincoln Highway (Business U.S. 1) over the East Branch of Queen Anne Creek in Falls Township, Bucks County, has been delayed to late December. The bridge is currently under construction as part of the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s (PennDOT) Rapid Bridge Replacement Project and had previously been expected to be complete in November.
Lincoln Highway (Business U.S. 1) between Kennedy Drive and Olds Boulevard will be reduced from four to two travel lanes until the new bridge is fully replaced in late December. Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work areas because slowdowns will occur.
The Lincoln Highway (Business U.S. 1) averages 10,612 daily vehicles. Built in 1921, the single-span concrete, solid slab bridge will be replaced with a new single-span culvert. Replacement work is being performed by Allan Myers of Worcester, PA.
In the event of unfavorable weather or unforeseen activities, this schedule may still change.
This bridge is referred to as JV-211 and is one out of the 558 bridges being replaced under the Rapid Bridge Replacement Project. JV references the joint-venture partnership between Walsh/Granite, which is leading construction for the entire project.
The Rapid Bridge Replacement Project is a public-private partnership (P3) between PennDOT and Plenary Walsh Keystone Partners (PWKP), under which PWKP will finance, design, replace, and maintain the bridges for 25 years. The P3 approach will allow PennDOT to replace the bridges more quickly while achieving significant savings and minimizing impact on motorists.
