The fiscally responsible Falls Township Supervisors are seeking to install a handicapped accessible playground at half of the budgeted cost.

During Monday night’s board meeting, the Supervisors voted unanimously to authorize submission of a Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources grant. If awarded, the grant would fund 50 percent of the total cost of the playground, officials said, resulting in an estimated savings of $258,193.

Parks and Recreation Director Brian Andrews said the grant application is due April 3.

Supervisors Chairman Jeff Dence said the playground, which is envisioned for phase two of Falls Township Community Park, would be modeled after the “very popular” handicapped accessible playground already in place at phase one of the park.
