Fallsington General Store Serves Nostalgia via Bottled Sodas, Penny Candy

When the Fallsington Antique & Craft store closed in 2024, Leah Bopf was “curious” about what would replace the shop that had been located in the heart of Fallsington for decades.
Less than a year after the store closed, Bopf repurposed the space at 4 Yardley Ave. to house Fallsington General Store, a quaint shop offering a bit of nostalgia from her childhood. The bright space features a variety of items from local artisans, including Uncle Dave’s Homemade Ice Cream, handmade sunglasses, home décor, as well as crocheted blankets and antiques.
Of course, to keep with the tradition of a general store, Bopf had to have a stash of penny candy.
“I had a little shop that I would go to,” Bopf said of her youth. “That’s why I did this.”
Her #1 seller is bottled sodas, along with a variety of candies shelved lower for kids stopping by after school to peruse for treats. Bopf, a former stay-at-home mom, keeps a chalkboard in place for her customers to jot down things they’d like to see in the store.
Her top request: Coffee. Bopf hopes to add cups of java in the future but first has to obtain the required food license.
Before opening in August 2025, Bopf researched shops in New Hope and Stockton to gain inspiration. She strives to offer items from smaller businesses, so customers have a unique experience shopping at the Fallsington General Store.
“I try to get something different from what Wawa has,” she said. “I call it like a little treat store.”
Treats range from unique cannoli candy bars, the ever-popular Dubai chocolate to bagged popcorn, hot honey sprinkles and maple syrup. The center of the store is Bopf’s seasonal space, featuring a variety of gift and novelty items relevant to the particular time of year. When she opened, the space featured everything back to school before switching to fall and Halloween-themed items. Up next is Christmas, she said.
Bopf collaborates with local florists to offer fresh flowers most days. For Thanksgiving, she plans to offer made-to-order centerpieces.
Prior to becoming a mom, Bopf worked in retail display and later as a virtual interior designer.
“It helped with my floor planning for sure,” she said of the store. “It’s constantly evolving. Everybody loves it. They come and they say ‘it’s so bright and nice.’”
