Fortunoff Backyard Store

Nothing says summer quite like a relaxing afternoon under an umbrella with an ice-cold beverage in hand. A retailer of specialty outdoor furniture is making it easier for Falls Township residents to locally outfit their backyard or patio with the comforts of summer.

Fortunoff Backyard Store opened its Lincoln Highway location in May. The 10,000-square-foot store boasts dozens of styles of umbrellas, patio furniture sets and stylish coffee tables and chairs perfect for sunrooms and backyards alike.

The store features items in all-weather wicker, cast or extruded aluminum and the ever-popular solid teak wood. The local store marks the company’s fourth in Pennsylvania and 36th location in its region, which spans between the northeast and Florida, according to Curt Littlejohn, President of Fortunoff Backyard Store.

For the 2019 season, Littlejohn said all-weather wicker and teak wood are popular, as are gray tones and cantilever-style umbrellas.

“Indigo has been popular and continues to capture our customers’ attention,” Littlejohn said of the season’s hottest color. “It looks beautiful in an outdoor environment.”

In terms of product life, Store Manager Lee Budzak said she’s seen recent customers who still have patio sets they purchased from other Fortunoff stores 15 years ago. Others have told her they plan to sell their existing sets to make room for a new one.

To get the most life out of the furniture, Littlejohn recommends that customers cover the furniture when not in use. During heavy rains, bringing cushions inside is another option.

“It’s a big investment,” he said. “Protect your investment.”

Fortunoff offers their “Guardsman” warranty program, which provides additional investment protection. Warranties cover fabric stains from spills and pet stains, as well as fabric tears and accidental damage to the furniture.

As far as tips for outdoor furniture selection, Littlejohn recommends that customers ensure quality of the product and that all-weather wicker is put on an aluminum frame as opposed to steel. Steel, he noted, will rust, while aluminum will not. Other factors to consider are related to fabric choices. Fortunoff stores use Sunbrella fabric, which is guaranteed against fading for five years.

Once a customer finds the perfect furniture for their outdoor haven, Littlejohn said it can be delivered and assembled within a week or, in some cases, sooner.

The company’s value, variety and each store’s sales team and customer service sets Fortunoff apart from other outdoor furniture stores, Littlejohn said. With close to 100 years of experience and a top-notch reputation, the company has grown to be a trusted retailer of outdoor furniture. The first Fortunoff Backyard Store was founded by Max and Clara Fortunoff in 1922 in New York. The company’s base has since grown to include New York, Pennsylvania, Delaware, New Jersey, Connecticut and Florida.
