Ever wanted to paint the clouds? Create a game? Write your own book?
Community members can try their hand at these fun activities and more as part of Fallsington Library’s annual Summer Quest. The dual summer reading and science, art and nature-themed program provides participants with a log to track their daily reading time over the nearly nine-week-long program which kicks off June 18 and continues through Aug. 13. The program is open to residents of all ages.
The student with the most reading minutes logged will win the library’s coveted Summer Quest Reading Champ award. Everyone who logs at least 300 minutes of reading will be entered into the library’s prize basket raffle drawing.
In addition to reading by flashlight, reading to pets (or stuffed animals), or writing/illustrating a book, participants can choose from more than a dozen activities to complete, such as a cooking from a recipe, finding the stars on a clear night, photographing the sights on a hike, or conducting a science experiment. Youth who complete at least 10 of the projects will be entered to win a prize drawing. Participants who finish all 19 activities will receive an activity award.
“It’s meant for families to create projects with materials they readily have,” Fallsington Library Co. Director Charlene Rendeiro said.
In 2021, 120 people registered for Summer Quest. For 2022, Rendeiro hopes for even more participation.
Fallsington Library’s reading champion for 2020 and 2021 logged 19,713 minutes of reading last summer, setting the bar high for this summer’s top reader.
An art enthusiast, Rendeiro enjoys putting personal touches on the kids’ awards to “jazz them up” with fun accoutrements.
To get involved
Students can participate in Fallsington Library Company’s annual Summer Quest program beginning June 18. The library will provide participants with a dual summer reading and activity log to help track reading minutes and completion of projects through Aug. 13. Participants who read a minimum of 300 minutes and/or complete at least 10 of the 19 activities will be entered to win a prize basket. In order to be eligible for a raffle drawing ticket or activity award, participants much show their projects by either bringing them to the library, emailing photos to Charlene Rendeiro at rendeiroc@buckslib.org or posting photos of youth with their projects on the library’s Facebook page. Monetary donations can be made to support the library’s programming. Anyone wishing to donate items for a prize basket should coordinate with Rendeiro by emailing her at rendeiroc@buckslib.org.

The Fallsington Library Company was founded in 1800 and incorporated in 1802. In 1879, the nonprofit organization moved into its Federalist-style building located at 139 Yardley Ave. The second floor served as a community hall, hosting concerts, plays, dances, meetings, and even gym classes for the Pennsbury School.
