The Falls Township Police Department plans to fundraise for and undertake beautification projects at Franklin Kirby Park in the new year.
The park, which is located on Vermont Lane in the Vermilion Hills section of Levittown, would be improved as part of the police department’s fundraising initiative, according to Township Manager Matthew Takita.
“The park could use a cleanup and some sprucing up,” Takita told the Supervisors during Tuesday’s workshop meeting. “The path is deteriorated.”
Supervisors Chairman Jeff Dence said he would like to discuss the project with the entire board. Supervisors Jeff Boraski, Brian Galloway and Erin Mullen were absent Tuesday.
Falls Township Police Lt. Christopher Clark said the department formed a committee several weeks ago to discuss the timeline and fundraising opportunities. Clark said the committee will form a nonprofit organization and begin fundraising in 2024.
Police are looking to resurface and level the basketball court to include new backboards, rims, and nets.
Other planned improvements include resurfacing of the parking lot to include parking stalls, bumpers and curbs and the installation of lighting and parking rules sign.
At the tot lot, the department hopes to add a new playground railing, mulch, as well as new benches, trash cans and picnic tables.
Police also would like to repave the walkways with memorials and dedications and add a footbridge to make the entrance easier from the basketball courts to the tot lot.
The department hopes to add two new park signs, one at the tot lot, and one at the basketball courts. A third sign addition would explain the history of Chief Franklin Kirby and the Falls Township Police Department.
In addition, police would like to install memorial park benches and improve the landscaping throughout the park and Martin’s Creek.
